New Delhi:

Four notorious gangsters from Bihar met their end during an early morning police encounter in Delhi on Thursday. These individuals, members of the infamous Sigma Gang, were allegedly planning significant criminal activities ahead of the upcoming Bihar assembly elections.

The deadly confrontation between the criminals and joint teams from Delhi and Bihar Police occurred at approximately 2:20 am in Northwest Delhi.

Sources within the Delhi Police indicated that the encounter was initiated when law enforcement attempted to stop the gang members, who responded by opening fire in a desperate escape attempt.

In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, all four suspects sustained bullet wounds. They were immediately transported to Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital in Rohini, where medical personnel pronounced them deceased upon arrival.

The deceased criminals were identified as 25-year-old Ranjan Pathak (the gang's leader), 25-year-old Bimlesh Mahto, 33-year-old Manish Pathak, and 21-year-old Aman Thakur. Over time, the Sigma Gang had established an extensive criminal network specializing in extortion and contract killings throughout Bihar.

Delhi Police confirmed that these individuals were wanted for numerous serious offenses, including murder, extortion, and organized crime activities across Bihar.

Pathak had a bounty of Rs 25,000 for his capture. He was implicated in eight criminal cases, including five high-profile murders in Sitamarhi and neighboring districts within Bihar.

According to a Delhi Police source, Pathak had been brazenly challenging law enforcement through social media platforms and audio messages. A recently discovered audio recording allegedly contained details of significant criminal conspiracies the gang was developing in anticipation of the Bihar elections.

The gang had executed several murders in recent months, including the killing of a journalist.

The Sigma Gang had been operating for approximately seven years and was reportedly regrouping in Delhi to avoid police action in Bihar. Law enforcement had been monitoring their movements for several days before executing this operation.

Following the encounter, authorities secured the area and summoned forensic teams to gather evidence.

An investigation continues to identify remaining gang connections and potential associates.
