Hyderabad:
Anti-Corruption Bureau officials seized approximately Rs 2 crore in cash during Tuesday's early morning raid targeting properties connected to an Assistant Divisional Engineer (ADE) of the Telangana Electricity Department.
The suspect, identified as Ambedkar, currently serving in the Manikonda division, is being investigated for allegedly accumulating wealth disproportionate to his legitimate income sources.
Beginning around 5 am, the operation deployed 15-18 teams across multiple Hyderabad locations including Madhapur and Gachibowli, as well as residences of the suspect's family members.
Officials discovered the majority of cash at a relative's residence, suggesting possible benami property arrangements. The ACB additionally confirmed seizing a substantial amount of gold, which is currently undergoing valuation.
According to ACB sources, the investigation was launched following intelligence about the engineer's alleged corrupt activities.
Ambedkar reportedly has a record of corruption allegations, with sources indicating he routinely demanded bribes for electricity connection approvals, especially from commercial establishments, shopping malls, and theaters.
The officer was reportedly known for maintaining high numbers of pending applications and allegedly mistreated both subordinate staff and customers.
Sources revealed that Ambedkar had been suspended approximately one year ago on corruption and misconduct charges but was reinstated within several weeks.
Investigators are currently focused on tracing the origins of the confiscated cash and additional assets.
