An Indigo aircraft traveling from Kolkata to Srinagar was forced to execute an emergency landing at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, due to a detected fuel leak.
The emergency situation was handled efficiently, with all 166 passengers and crew members being safely evacuated from the aircraft.
Officials from the airport have launched an investigation into the incident. According to police statements, the situation has been brought under control and normal airport operations have since resumed.
The flight, identified as 6E 6961, made what IndiGo described as a "precautionary landing" at Varanasi Airport after crew members detected a suspected technical malfunction.
A spokesperson for IndiGo stated: "As a standard safety protocol, the aircraft has been temporarily grounded for thorough technical inspections, and an alternative aircraft has been arranged to ensure passengers can continue their journey to Srinagar."
The spokesperson further emphasized: "At IndiGo, we consistently prioritize the safety of our passengers, crew members, and aircraft above all else. We sincerely appreciate our customers' patience and cooperation while our teams work diligently to minimize any inconvenience caused by this situation."
