A comprehensive search operation is currently in progress, with security forces deploying helicopters, drones, and tracker dogs, according to police officials.
In Arunachal Pradesh's Namsai district, a suspected militant belonging to the outlawed organization ULFA (Independent) was killed during an intense firefight with security forces spearheaded by Assam Rifles personnel on Wednesday.
Police sources reported that the confrontation occurred in the 6 Mile area under the jurisdiction of Namsai police station.
Prior to the encounter, Assam Rifles had gathered intelligence from their sources regarding the presence of six to seven ULFA cadres in the 6 Mile Lekang Khampti region, prompting the launch of an operation. As the Assam Rifles team approached the specified location, they came under fire from ULFA militants, forcing them to return fire in self-defense.
During the subsequent exchange of gunfire, one suspected terrorist was neutralized, while the remaining militants managed to escape from the area.
Security forces have recovered an HK series automatic rifle, a grenade, and three bags from the site of the encounter.
Police officials confirmed that an extensive search operation remains ongoing, with security forces utilizing aerial support, drone surveillance, and canine units to track the escaped militants.
According to sources, the group of suspected ULFA(I) terrorists involved in this incident was reportedly part of the same faction that recently conducted an attack on an army Company Operating Base (COB) in Kakopathar, located in eastern Assam's Tinsukia district last week.
