Congress Announces Six Additional Candidates for Bihar Assembly Elections Amid Alliance Challenges

The Congress party released an additional list of six candidates for the Bihar Assembly elections on Monday, bringing their total announced candidates to 60.

This latest list was published after midnight, amid ongoing challenges in finalizing a formal seat-sharing arrangement within the Mahagathbandhan alliance, as the RJD and Congress continue to struggle reaching an understanding.

The newly announced candidates include Surendra Prasad Kushwaha for Valmiki Nagar constituency, Abidur Rehman for Araria, Jalil Mastan for Amour, Tauquir Alam for Barari, Praveen Singh Kushwaha for Kahalgaon, and Vinod Chaudhary for Sikandra (SC).

Internal tensions within the INDIA bloc became increasingly apparent on Sunday in Bihar, where disgruntled aspirants from both the RJD and Congress publicly accused leadership of selling party tickets.

Monday marks the final day for submitting nomination papers for the second and final phase of elections.

Despite the alliance challenges, both Congress and RJD have continued distributing party symbols to candidates.

The Congress had previously released its first list of 48 candidates on Thursday, which included state unit chief Rajesh Ram for the Kutumba seat and CLP leader Shakeel Ahmad Khan for Kadwa.

On Friday, the party announced Rishi Mishra as their candidate for Jale in a single nomination.

Prior to this latest announcement, the party had released another list of five candidates on Saturday.
