Centre Approves Rs 1,950 Crore Disaster Relief Fund to Karnataka and Maharashtra for Monsoon Flood Recovery

The Indian government has allocated Rs 1,950.80 crore as the second installment of disaster relief funds to Karnataka and Maharashtra to assist recovery efforts following severe monsoon flooding. This is part of a larger national disaster response initiative that has already distributed over Rs 13,600 crore to affected states, with comprehensive support including 199 NDRF teams deployed across India.

Centre Approves Rs 1,950 Crore To Karnataka, Maharashtra As Flood Relief

The Centre has already disbursed Rs 13,603.20 crore to 27 states this year as disaster relief funds.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has authorized the advance release of Rs 1,950.80 crore as the second installment of central share from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to Karnataka and Maharashtra governments for the fiscal year 2025-26.

From this allocation, Rs 384.40 crore has been designated for Karnataka while Maharashtra will receive Rs 1,566.40 crore. These funds are intended to provide immediate relief to populations affected by the extremely heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding during this year's southwest monsoon, according to an official statement.

Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership and Home Minister Shah's guidance, the central government has affirmed its full commitment to offering all possible assistance to states impacted by floods, landslides, and cloudbursts.

During the current year, the Centre has already distributed Rs 13,603.20 crore to 27 states through the SDRF and an additional Rs 2,189.28 crore under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) to 15 states.

In a social media post, Amit Shah stated: "Modi govt. stands with people during a disaster and its aftermath. Today, approved advance release of ₹1950.80 crore, as 2nd installment of central share of SDRF, to Karnataka and Maharashtra. The fund will be utilized to provide immediate relief assistance to people affected..."

Furthermore, Rs 4,571.30 crore has been released from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF) to 21 states, while Rs 372.09 crore has been disbursed from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF) to nine states.

The central government has also provided comprehensive logistical support, including deploying teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Army, and Air Force to assist all states affected by floods, landslides, and cloudbursts.

During this monsoon season, a record 199 NDRF teams were deployed across 30 states and Union Territories to conduct rescue and relief operations.
