Tragic Shooting: Restaurant Owner Killed Over Vegetarian Biryani Dispute in Ranchi

The tragic incident occurred at approximately 11:30 pm on Saturday night in Ranchi.

A 47-year-old hotel proprietor in Ranchi was fatally shot following a dispute that arose when a vegetarian customer was allegedly served non-vegetarian biryani, according to police reports on Sunday.

Superintendent of Police (Rural) Praveen Pushkar stated that the incident took place around 11:30 pm on Saturday. A customer had ordered vegetarian biryani from the hotel located on Kanke-Pithoria Road and departed with his takeaway order. However, he later returned with several companions, complaining that he had been mistakenly given non-vegetarian biryani instead.

The restaurant owner, identified as Vijay Kumar Nag (47), was dining at a table when one of the assailants discharged a firearm, with a bullet striking his chest. He succumbed to his injuries while being transported to the hospital.

The deceased was a resident of Bhittha in the Kanke police station area.

The body has been sent to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) for post-mortem examination. Law enforcement officials are conducting raids at multiple locations to apprehend the suspects.

"Angry locals blocked the Kanke-Pithoria Road on Sunday morning temporarily, demanding action against the perpetrators. The blockade was subsequently lifted after we assured them that the assailants would soon be arrested," said Kanke police station officer-in-charge Prakash Rajak.

He added that further investigation is ongoing to determine if there were any other motives behind this violent incident.
