New Delhi:
A fatal incident stemming from an extramarital relationship has resulted in two deaths in central Delhi. In a shocking public attack in the Ram Nagar area, a pregnant woman was fatally stabbed by her lover, while her husband managed to kill her attacker.
Shalini, a 22-year-old homemaker and mother of two daughters, was killed in the incident. Her husband Akash, 23, who works as an e-rickshaw driver, is currently fighting for his life in hospital. The attacker, 34-year-old Aashu alias Shailendra, was a known local criminal who had been romantically involved with Shalini.
According to police, Aashu claimed paternity of Shalini's unborn child and was furious about her decision to continue living with her husband.
The violent confrontation occurred late at night when Akash and Shalini were visiting her mother on Qutub Road. Aashu appeared unexpectedly and attempted to stab Akash, who managed to evade the attack. Upon spotting Shalini in an e-rickshaw, Aashu repeatedly stabbed her. When Akash intervened to protect his wife, he was also stabbed but ultimately overpowered Aashu, seizing the knife and fatally stabbing him.
Shalini's brother Rohit rushed both his sister and Akash to the hospital, while police transported Aashu to the same facility. Upon arrival, both Shalini and Aashu were pronounced dead. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Nidhin Valsan stated that Akash sustained multiple stab wounds while attempting to save his wife.
The incident has created fear throughout the neighborhood.
Police have filed murder and attempted murder charges based on the statement provided by Shalini's mother, Sheila. The victims' bodies have been sent for postmortem examination.
Sheila revealed that Shalini and Akash's marriage had deteriorated several years ago, during which time Shalini began a relationship with Aashu. The pair had even cohabitated temporarily. Eventually, Shalini and Akash reconciled and resumed living together with their children.
This reconciliation infuriated Aashu, who insisted he was the father of Shalini's unborn child. According to police sources, Shalini maintained that Akash was the father, which allegedly prompted Aashu to plan the attack on the couple.
