Patna:

The ruling NDA alliance in Bihar faced a setback when Seema Singh's nomination papers were rejected during scrutiny on Saturday. Singh, a former Bhojpuri actress, was fielded by the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) as their candidate for the Marhoura seat in Saran district.

When questioned about this development, Union minister Chirag Paswan, who leads the party, stated, "We have submitted a representation to the Election Commission. This situation occurred due to a minor lapse. We are hopeful for a resolution."

Another candidate whose nomination was rejected from the same constituency was Altaf Alam Raju, a former JD(U) leader who had filed as an Independent candidate.

The Marhoura seat now appears headed for a direct contest between the incumbent RJD MLA Jitendra Kumar Rai, who previously served as a minister, and Abhay Singh from Jan Suraaj Party.

The constituency will vote in the first phase of polling scheduled for November 6. Currently, nine candidates remain in contention after the rejection of four nomination papers.

Candidates have until October 20 to withdraw their nominations from the electoral race.
