The ruling NDA in Assam received a significant boost ahead of next year's Assembly elections as the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) officially rejoined the alliance.

In a ceremony held at the Raj Bhavan in Guwahati on Saturday, BPF leader Charan Boro was sworn in as a minister in Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's cabinet by Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya. The event was attended by Chief Minister Sarma, Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) chief Hagrama Mohilary, and several Cabinet members.

Chief Minister Sarma stated, "I had previously mentioned when BPF won the Bodoland Territorial Council elections last month that we would welcome them to the NDA. You will witness our collaborative efforts toward establishing peace in Bodoland. Today's inclusion of BPF's Charan Boro as a minister in the NDA government represents a significant milestone for peace in Bodoland."

He further expressed gratitude to Hagrama Mohilary for supporting Charan Boro's entry into the NDA government, emphasizing their shared commitment to fostering lasting peace and progress for all communities residing in Bodoland.

Boro, who has been assigned the Transport portfolio, described the BPF's alliance with the NDA as a "great moment" for the people of the Bodoland Territorial Region.

"I am extremely pleased. Having served as an MLA for nine years, I am grateful for being entrusted with this responsibility. This truly represents a momentous occasion. We have received tremendous support from the people. We have complete faith in the government, in Hagrama sir, and in the people of the BTC. Those who previously supported other parties will also be welcomed into the BPF," Boro remarked.

Mohilary, who had severed ties with the NDA in 2021, informed the media that his party would collaborate with the alliance to prioritize development initiatives.

"BPF has consistently worked toward the development of people in BTC. Meaningful development requires collaboration with the government. We will work alongside the NDA for the welfare of the BTC region. The BTC faces numerous challenges, and we hope to address them through cooperative efforts. The actions of the United People's Party Liberal within the NDA are not our concern; our focus remains on advancing the people's progress," Mohilary explained.
