In Massive Assam Police Reshuffle, Over 30 Senior Officers Transferred

The Assam government has implemented a comprehensive reorganization of its police force, transferring more than 30 senior officers across the state.

In a significant administrative restructuring, the Assam government has executed a major police reshuffle, relocating and reassigning over 30 senior officers from the Indian Police Service (IPS) and Assam Police Service (APS) to new positions throughout various districts and specialized departments.

According to the Home Department's order issued Friday, these transfers were authorized "in the interest of public service" and received gubernatorial approval. The initiative aims to enhance policing effectiveness and bolster district-level administration.

Among the notable reassignments, Partha Protim Das, IPS (RR-2018), previously Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) for Sribhumi, has been transferred to serve as SSP of Cachar, replacing Numal Mahatta, APS, who now assumes the role of SSP in Kokrajhar.

Leena Doley, APS (DR-2002), formerly SSP of Dhubri, has been posted to Sribhumi, while Debasish Borah, APS (DR-2004), who served as Commandant of the 4th Assam Police Battalion, moves to Dhubri.

Other significant changes include Pushpraj Singh, IPS (RR-2014), transferring from Kokrajhar to Karbi Anglong; Sanjib Kumar Saikia, APS (DR-2004), relocating from Karbi Anglong to Kamrup; Subhrajyoti Bora, IPS (RR-2016), moving from Sivasagar to Jorhat; and Gurav Abhijit Dilip, IPS (RR-2014), shifting from Tinsukia to Dibrugarh.

Shambhavi Mishra, IPS (RR-2019), has been appointed as Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) for Guwahati, while Ranjan Bhuyan, IPS, takes on the role of Senior Superintendent of Police (Anti Human Trafficking) within the Criminal Investigation Department. Amrit Bhuyan, IPS, will assume command of the 21st Assam Police Battalion in Katlichera, Hailakandi.

The government stated these transfers are part of a standard rotation policy designed to ensure administrative vitality, strengthen law enforcement across sensitive regions, and introduce fresh leadership in key areas.

This reorganization encompasses nearly every region of the state—from Dibrugarh, Cachar, and Dhubri to remote districts including Dima Hasao, Majuli, and Tamulpur—reflecting the government's commitment to maintaining balanced oversight and improving operational coordination.

Officials expect this initiative to revitalize field operations, enhance community policing practices, and improve coordination between district police units and specialized divisions such as the Criminal Investigation Department, Special Branch, and police battalions.

The extensive reshuffle coincides with Assam's ongoing efforts to modernize its policing infrastructure and increase efficiency in combating organized crime, narcotics operations, and human trafficking.

According to the Home Department's notification, all officers will assume their new positions "with immediate effect from the date of assuming charge," in adherence to procedural protocols.
