The Patna High Court has ordered the Congress party to take down the artificial intelligence-generated video showing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's deceased mother, Heeraben Modi, from all social media platforms.
The controversy erupted after Bihar Congress posted the AI-generated video, igniting a significant political dispute. BJP accused the opposition of disrespecting the Prime Minister's late mother, while Congress defended their content, asserting they showed no disrespect to Heeraben Modi in the video.
Justice P B Bajanthri, Acting Chief Justice, issued the order responding to a petition that described the video as "defamatory" and emphasized that it violated restrictions imposed on political parties under the Representation of the People Act.
According to K N Singh, Additional Solicitor General of India representing the Centre, "The court has clearly stated that the video must remain withdrawn until the next hearing date."
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the Centre, and the Election Commission were listed as respondents in the case. Siddharth Prasad, the Election Commission's counsel, mentioned that the court has issued notices to Facebook, Twitter, and Google, requesting their responses by the next scheduled hearing.
