A college student, aged 19, lost his life when a container truck ran him over after he fell from a two-wheeler on a pothole-filled road in Bhiwandi town, Maharashtra's Thane district, according to police reports on Friday.

The incident took place in the Temghar area along Kalyan Road on Thursday evening, as stated by an official.

Initial investigations reveal that the victim, Raj Niranjan Singh, was traveling as a pillion rider on a two-wheeler with his friend when their vehicle lost balance on the pothole-riddled road section and skidded, the official explained.

Moments later, a container truck ran over Singh, causing his immediate death, while his companion escaped with minor injuries.

The deceased was a BCom student and an only child of his parents.

Authorities at the Shantinagar police station have filed a case against the container truck driver involved in the fatal accident, confirmed the official.

"We are conducting an investigation to ascertain whether negligence on the driver's part or the deteriorated road condition was the main factor behind this tragedy," stated Senior Inspector Vinayak Gaikwad from the Shantinagar police station.
