Brown Sugar Worth Rs 3.5 Crore Seized In UP, 1 Arrested

The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) has confiscated 3.44 kg of brown sugar valued at approximately Rs 3.5 crore and apprehended one individual in Bahraich district on Friday.

Acting on intelligence information, the UP STF stopped the suspect Sonu Ahmed on the Lucknow-Nanpara bypass at around 7 am as he was transporting narcotics in a personal vehicle. Authorities confirmed Ahmed is affiliated with a narcotics trafficking organization.

During the operation, officials also recovered two mobile phones, cash, and an electronic weighing scale alongside the illicit substances.

Investigations revealed that Ahmed had been obtaining the narcotics from a woman identified as Badam in Lucknow's Badi Pakdiya area. For approximately one year, Ahmed distributed these substances to various locations across Bahraich and areas along the Nepal border, reportedly having trafficked over 100 kg of drugs during this period.

A high-ranking UP STF official informed NDTV that investigations are continuing to dismantle the broader narcotics network and identify additional collaborators.
