Ganga Verma stated, "It is a mother's duty to save her child's life" as she demonstrated extraordinary maternal love through organ donation.

In a remarkable act of maternal sacrifice, a 72-year-old woman from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, has donated her kidney to save her son's life, hospital officials confirmed on Friday.

Kamlesh Verma, 46, had been battling a severe kidney condition for years. Despite undergoing dialysis treatment for three years, his health continued to deteriorate significantly.

When medical professionals recommended a kidney transplant as the necessary intervention, Ganga Verma, Kamlesh's elderly mother, immediately volunteered to become the donor despite her advanced age.

The critical transplant surgery was successfully performed at Indore's Government Super Speciality Hospital, marking an exceptional case of organ donation.

Dr. Ritesh Banode, who heads the hospital's nephrology department, acknowledged the unique challenges presented by this case. "The transplant was challenging because of the donor's advanced age, but the surgery was completely successful," he told PTI. The physician expressed hope that this remarkable story would motivate others to consider organ donation.

Both mother and son have been discharged from the hospital and are currently recovering at home together.

When asked about her decision, the 72-year-old Ganga Verma responded with profound simplicity: "It is a mother's duty to save her child's life. If my kidney saved my son's life, what can make me happier than this?"

Kamlesh, who works as a laundryman, expressed overwhelming gratitude toward his mother. "I had been undergoing dialysis for the last three years. Now my mother has given me life again. I can never repay this debt to my mother," he said with visible emotion.
