Tragic Dowry Death in Uttar Pradesh: Mother Murdered, Infant Abandoned on Roadside

Videos captured a heartbreaking scene showing a one-month-old infant crying inconsolably as villagers gathered around the child.

In a shocking incident in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, a one-month-old baby was discovered abandoned on the roadside, covered in dust and dirt last Friday. Police reports indicate the infant's mother, Monica, was allegedly murdered by her husband following dowry-related harassment.

The distressing event occurred in Badrakha village within the Chhaprauli police jurisdiction. Footage from the scene revealed the helpless infant crying while villagers observed from a distance. Some bystanders even boarded a tractor trolley, leaving the baby unattended for several minutes before one individual finally came forward to assist the child.

Praveen Singh Chauhan, Assistant Superintendent of Police in Baghpat, stated: "The post-mortem examination confirmed that Monica was murdered, not simply deceased. She suffered fatal injuries when kicked in the stomach, which ruptured her spleen and resulted in her death."

According to Monica's family, her husband Ashok and his brother continuously harassed her for dowry. Sushil Kumar, Monica's brother, explained: "This was her second marriage. Following the death of her first husband, she married Ashok from Badarkha village. Both he and his brother persistently demanded dowry from her."

The tragedy intensified when Monica's family arrived at her in-laws' residence for the funeral proceedings. They reportedly faced assault upon arrival. "When we reached their home, they physically attacked us, verbally abused our family, and callously threw our nephew onto the road," Sushil recounted.

Police officials confirmed that Monica's body had been released to her in-laws following the post-mortem examination to allow for traditional Hindu funeral rites. However, a violent confrontation erupted soon after her family's arrival.

Based on the family's formal complaint, authorities have arrested Monica's husband. Police have assured that "an investigation is currently underway, and decisive action will be taken against all individuals involved in this case."
