New Delhi:
In a display of political camaraderie, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who once strongly criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urged attendees at a gathering in Purnea to stand and applaud the Prime Minister for the numerous development initiatives the Central government is implementing across Bihar.
The Prime Minister visited Purnea in eastern Bihar yesterday to launch development projects valued at Rs 36,000 crore, including the region's first airport in the politically significant Seemanchal area. The BJP anticipates these announcements will yield positive results in the forthcoming elections.
During his address, Chief Minister Kumar expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for contributing to Bihar's and India's development. "I would like to make a statement. He has contributed enormously to Bihar. Please rise and welcome him. Why remain seated?" he remarked, as the audience cheered while Prime Minister Modi acknowledged with folded hands. "The state government has been working consistently, and with his backing, Bihar will continue to progress," the Chief Minister added.

In what appeared to be criticism of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), the Bihar Chief Minister compared the current development pace in Bihar with conditions during the RJD administration. "Prior to our government's formation on November 24, 2005, Bihar had nothing. The previous administration accomplished nothing. Since our arrival, work has progressed continuously," he stated, without specifically naming anyone.
Nitish Kumar's JDU is a crucial ally of the BJP at the national level, and its support was essential for forming the Modi 3.0 government after the BJP failed to secure a majority in last year's Lok Sabha elections.
Notably, Nitish Kumar had previously abandoned the NDA coalition over the BJP's decision to nominate Narendra Modi as its Prime Ministerial candidate before the 2014 elections.
The past decade has witnessed multiple political realignments by the JDU leader across party lines. He has maintained his position as Bihar Chief Minister despite changing alliances. Mr. Kumar is now preparing for another intense electoral battle in partnership with the BJP.
