Assistant Sub-Inspector Sandeep Kumar Lathar's son speaks to reporters in Haryana
New Delhi:
The son of a police officer in Haryana has made a solemn promise to fulfill his father's dreams following his father's alleged suicide on Tuesday.
At his father's funeral, the young boy, surrounded by media personnel, courageously fought back tears while stating, "I am proud of my father. I will fulfill all his dreams."
Assistant Sub-Inspector Sandeep Kumar Lathar, who served in the cyber cell in Rohtak, reportedly left behind a note containing allegations against a senior police officer from the same district who had also recently died by suicide.
Lathar's apparent suicide and the discovered note have introduced a significant twist in the suicide case of Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Y Puran Kumar in Chandigarh.
Based on the note and a video purportedly made by Lathar, his wife has filed a first information report (FIR) for abetment to suicide in Haryana.
Following completion of the postmortem, Lathar's cremation ceremony took place this afternoon.
His daughter expressed to reporters in Julana her hope that authorities would help her family receive justice. "My father gave his life in the fight against corruption, he is a martyr... I have faith that Haryana Police and the government will support us," she stated.
The last rites were conducted in Jind, with numerous young people on motorcycles carrying the national flag accompanying the police vehicle transporting the body. The ceremony was attended by villagers and political leaders across party lines.
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini met with Lathar's family on Wednesday. Today, Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced after visiting the grieving family that Lathar's wife would receive employment and the government would support his children's education.
IPS officer Puran Kumar's last rites were performed in Chandigarh on Wednesday. His body was discovered with gunshot wounds at his Chandigarh residence, while Lathar's body was found in a makeshift shed in a field in Rohtak.
Haryana Police chief OP Singh addressed reporters in Karnal, saying, "Two lives were lost. Both were our colleagues. We are considering what needs to be done so that this situation does not arise in future. One thing which we are seriously considering is that the Officers' Wives Association Institute in the state police will be further strengthened."
The Chandigarh Police have formed a six-member special investigation team to investigate Puran Kumar's case.
