Sri Lankan Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya has arrived in India to participate in the NDTV World Summit at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
Expressing enthusiasm about her visit, Amarasuriya stated, "I am very excited, and I am looking forward to it very much and to meeting Prime Minister Modi as well."
The prestigious summit, scheduled for October 17th and 18th, represents a global dialogue of significant importance. Prior to her arrival, Amarasuriya shared her expectations through a video message, saying, "I am looking forward to participating in the NDTV World Summit, where I will have the opportunity to engage with global leaders and thinkers. I hope to share Sri Lanka's perspectives on international cooperation and economic resilience, and to contribute to meaningful conversations on the pressing challenges of our region and the world."
Speaking on India-Sri Lanka relations, the Prime Minister highlighted that the two nations are "bound together by history, culture and shared values." She expressed her intention to utilize this opportunity to "strengthen cooperation" across multiple domains including trade, investment, education, development, and beyond.
Amarasuriya arrived in Delhi today specifically to participate in the NDTV World Summit where she will address the topic 'Steering change in uncertain times' on the first day of the two-day event. This marks her first visit to India since assuming office on September 24, 2024.
As the 16th Prime Minister of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Amarasuriya is notably the third woman to hold this distinguished position.
Earlier today, she visited her alma mater, Hindu College at Delhi University, where she previously studied sociology. This return to Hindu College represents a meaningful homecoming that celebrates her personal journey while reinforcing the strong bilateral ties between India and Sri Lanka.
The 2025 edition of the NDTV World Summit is themed 'Edge of the Unknown: Risk. Resolve. Renewal.' This theme invites participants to confront uncertainty with creativity, to approach resolve not merely as reaction but as intentional purpose, and to embrace renewal not as a return to previous conditions but as the creation of new possibilities.
This edition will assemble an exceptional collection of minds including heads of state, cultural figures, business leaders, innovators, and voices of moral vision to engage in a distinctive form of dialogue—one founded on brave questioning and thoughtful exploration of navigating complexity with clarity and conscience.
