Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel's administration is preparing for a significant cabinet reshuffle scheduled for October 17, with political activity intensifying in Gandhinagar. The current government, which has been operating with just 17 cabinet members, is set for a comprehensive reorganization as the BJP aims to introduce new faces and enhance representation across different demographics.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP National President JP Nadda will oversee the reshuffle, marking a strategic move as the party positions itself for the upcoming 2027 Assembly elections. Inside sources reveal that current ministers have received instructions to remain in Gandhinagar both today and tomorrow, with several expected to submit their resignations by this evening.
This cabinet restructuring follows multiple high-level meetings in Delhi that have laid the groundwork for the first major reorganization under Chief Minister Patel's leadership. The BJP's strategic planning comes as the Aam Aadmi Party, under the leadership of Gopal Italia, continues to make significant inroads into the Patidar community, traditionally a BJP stronghold.
The current Bhupendra Patel cabinet, with just 17 members including the Chief Minister himself, is one of the smallest in recent Gujarat political history. The anticipated expansion is expected to fill approximately twelve vacant offices in the Swarnim Sankul government complex, suggesting a substantial addition of new ministers.
According to reliable sources, ministers including Dharmendrasinh, Rishikesh Patel, Mukesh Patel, and Bhupendrasinh Chudasama are likely to maintain their positions. However, others such as Finance Minister Kanubhai Desai, Agriculture Minister Raghavji Patel, Water Supply Minister Kunvarji Bavaliya, and Tourism Minister Murubhai Bera may be removed from their positions.
The reshuffle is expected to welcome new faces including Jayesh Radadiya, Shankar Chaudhary, Arjun Modhwadia, Jitu Vaghani, Reeva Jadeja, and Alpesh Thakor. This restructuring appears designed to reward emerging leaders while strengthening OBC and Patidar representation, with the Saurashtra region anticipated to gain significant political advantage from these changes.
