Lucknow police successfully apprehended a man who kidnapped a four-year-old boy after the child's mother declined his marriage proposal, authorities reported on Wednesday.
The abduction incident occurred on Sunday when the young boy was playing outside his residence.
According to police, the suspect, identified as Sudhakar Singh, 24, who sells flowers in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, was caught at Lucknow railway station while traveling with the kidnapped child on the Suhaildev Express train.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Hemant Tiwari stated, "We received a PCR call at Amar Colony police station on October 12 about a boy's kidnapping. The child had been playing outside when the suspect took him away."
Investigations revealed that the boy's mother had maintained contact with Singh through social media platforms for approximately one year. Police officials noted that Singh had previously threatened to abduct her son if she refused his relationship advances.
On the day of the incident, the child's father, who filed the police complaint, spotted Singh near their home around 1 pm, but the suspect fled the scene. Later, at approximately 4:30 pm, the mother informed her husband that their son was missing and expressed her suspicion that Singh had kidnapped him.
Following the complaint, authorities registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police tracked the suspect's movements using both technical surveillance methods and traditional intelligence gathering.
Authorities intercepted Singh in Lucknow within eight hours of the kidnapping.
During subsequent interrogation, Singh reportedly admitted to kidnapping the boy as leverage to pressure his mother into accepting his marriage proposal.
