Guwahati:
Two additional Assamese expatriates who were present at the yacht party in Singapore during legendary singer Zubeen Garg's final moments on September 19 presented themselves before the Assam Police's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Tuesday.
In a statement to the media, CID Special DGP Munna Prasad Gupta confirmed, "Today, Abhimanyu Talukdar and Tanmoy Phukan have arrived from Singapore and are appearing before the CID. Their interrogation is ongoing and statements are being recorded."
To date, seven Assamese NRIs residing in the Southeast Asian nation have provided testimony to the investigating agency, while four others who received summonses from the CID have yet to appear, according to Gupta.
On Monday, Gupta had reported that four expatriates—Jiolangsat Narzary, Parikshit Sharma, Siddhartha Bora, and Bhaskar Jyoti Dutta—had given their statements to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the CID.
Tanmoy Phukan is known to be an acquaintance of Zubeen Garg, while Abhimanyu Talukdar serves as the president of the Assam Association of Singapore.
Seven Assamese NRIs have now provided their accounts to the SIT. Earlier this week, Rupkamal Kalita, Jalongsat Narjari, Parikshit Sharma, and Siddharth Bora appeared before investigators, with three NRIs subsequently testifying at the CJM court following SIT questioning. On October 13 afternoon, Assamese NRI Bhaskarjyoti Dutta also arrived at the SIT office.
The CID had issued summonses to all 11 expatriates who were present on the yacht during the incident, though only Kalita responded to the initial notice. Last week, the remaining 10 individuals received reissued summonses.
On October 1, the SIT arrested two key individuals: Siddharth Sharma, the singer's manager, and Shyamkanu Mahanta, the festival organizer responsible for arranging the Singapore event. Both individuals face charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
The SIT, having arrested North East India festival organizer Shyamkanu Mahanta, Zubeen's manager Siddharth Sharma, drummer Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, and co-singer Amritprabha Mahanta, continues to question and record statements from various individuals connected to the case.
