New Delhi:
A DTC bus traveling at high speed in east Delhi collided with multiple vehicles on Tuesday, causing injuries to three individuals and breaking an eight-year-old student's tooth.
According to officials, the Delhi Transport Corporation bus was moving from Karkardooma Court towards 60 Feet Road in Vishwas Nagar when it struck a bike, an e-rickshaw, and a school van coming from the opposite direction around 12:20 pm.
CCTV footage captures the horrifying moment when the speeding bus, already dragging a motorcycle, crashes into the e-rickshaw at high velocity. The impact causes the rickshaw to spin around before hitting a school van. The bus then continues to drag both vehicles forward at dangerous speed, leaving behind only a spinning helmet as evidence of the collision.
"I am still in shock. Everything happened in a matter of seconds. This wasn't a highway or a main road, it was just a narrow connecting street, but the bus was still being driven at a very high speed," recounted the school van driver.
Following the accident, the bus driver initially fled the scene but was later apprehended by authorities.
According to a statement from the Shahdara Deputy Commissioner of Police, two motorcycle riders identified as Satish and Mahesh, along with e-rickshaw driver Mahesh, sustained minor injuries and were transported to Hedgewar Hospital for medical attention. Additionally, an eight-year-old student from Sarvodaya Vidyalaya lost a tooth in the incident.
Authorities have registered a case against the bus driver, who remains in police custody.
Local community members have called for improved speed monitoring measures and enhanced traffic management systems in the area to prevent similar accidents.
