The Supreme Court on Tuesday agreed to promptly hear a special leave petition filed by two female journalists from Telangana who are concerned about potential arrest regarding allegedly offensive content posted about Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.

Pogadadanda Revathi, Managing Director of Pulse News, and Thanvi Yadav, a reporter for the same media outlet, approached the Supreme Court challenging a Telangana High Court ruling that upheld the Sessions Court's order mandating them to undergo police custody.

The journalists were initially arrested on March 12 but subsequently received bail from the Magistrate Court shortly after. However, following the High Court's Monday ruling, they now fear being arrested again.

The legal counsel requesting an urgent hearing informed the Supreme Court bench, led by Chief Justice of India BR Gavai, that after enjoying bail for seven months, the journalists now face potential arrest and office seizure due to the High Court directive requiring them to undergo police custody.

Their arrest stemmed from a complaint filed by the head of the Congress party's state social media division. The journalists face serious allegations including publishing obscene material, participating in organized crime, criminal conspiracy, spreading rumors to incite hatred, and provoking breach of peace.
