Sandeep Kumar died by suicide after making serious allegations against Y Puran Kumar
In a significant development during the investigation of Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar's suicide, another police officer has taken his own life today while making grave accusations against Kumar. Sandeep Kumar, who served as an Assistant Sub-Inspector in Rohtak's cyber cell and was investigating corruption allegations against Y Puran Kumar, stated in his suicide note that he was giving his life for "truth".
Sandeep Kumar used his service revolver to end his life in a Rohtak field. He recorded a video and wrote a three-page suicide note before his death. In these materials, he claimed that Y Puran Kumar was a "corrupt cop" who died by suicide when facing potential exposure of his alleged corrupt activities. Sandeep Kumar further alleged that the IPS officer manipulated the system by framing issues as caste discrimination.
According to Sandeep Kumar's suicide note, Y Puran Kumar was transferred following corruption allegations. Reportedly, Sandeep Kumar had discovered Y Puran Kumar's gunman accepting a Rs 2.5 lakh bribe from a liquor contractor who had approached Y Puran Kumar after receiving threats from a gangster. When the bribery allegations emerged, the IPS officer allegedly attempted to portray it as a caste-related matter before taking his own life.
In his final video message, Sandeep Kumar stated that after Y Puran Kumar's appointment to the Rohtak range, he began replacing honest officers with corrupt ones. "These people blocked files, called petitioners and mentally tortured them by asking for money. Women police personnel were sexually exploited in exchange for transfers," he alleged.
Sandeep Kumar further claimed, "Roots of his corruption run very deep. He has committed suicide fearing the complaint against him." He insisted, "Their assets must be probed. This is not a caste issue. Truth must come out. He was corrupt."
In his final statement, Sandeep Kumar declared, "I am sacrificing my life for this truth. I am proud that I stand with honesty. This is important to awaken the country," adding that his family members had fought for India's independence.
Sandeep Kumar also expressed admiration for Rohtak police chief Narendra Bijarnia, one of ten officers named in Y Puran Kumar's suicide note. Bijarnia has subsequently been transferred from his position.
