West Bengal Police Conduct Detailed Crime Scene Reconstruction in Durgapur Gang-Rape Investigation

The West Bengal Police have initiated a comprehensive reconstruction of the crime scene in the Durgapur gang-rape investigation. A substantial police contingent, led by Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Gupta from the Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissionerate, arrived at the location on Tuesday as part of their thorough investigation into the alleged gang-rape of a second-year medical student.

Investigators began the initial phase of the crime scene reconstruction to gain a clearer understanding of how the incident transpired and to verify the sequence of events as described by both the accused individuals and witnesses.

During this investigative exercise, a significant police presence was observed throughout the area. Media personnel were restricted to the hospital entrance and were not permitted to approach the reconstruction site due to security protocols and to maintain the integrity of the investigation.

According to officials, this reconstruction represents a critical component of the investigation, designed to establish the specific roles of those arrested and to gather essential evidence pertinent to the case.

As a significant aspect of the reconstruction process, police brought the male friend of the second-year medical student to the crime scene. This individual had accompanied the victim outside the campus on Friday night before the incident occurred.

Sources confirm that two of the accused were also escorted to the location to assist with the crime scene reconstruction. Investigators carefully verified the witness's statement and the chronological sequence of events at the location where the crime allegedly took place.

Earlier that day, two of the arrested suspects - Sheikh Riazuddin and Sheikh Nasiruddin - were taken to their native Bijra village for on-site verification purposes. Investigators believe several crucial leads connected to the crime might originate from that particular area, according to sources familiar with the investigation. A joint team comprising officers from both the Durgapur New Township Police Station and Durgapur Police Station participated in this operation.
