Officials have confirmed that the number of terrorists awaiting infiltration opportunities constantly fluctuates.
Indian Army troops successfully eliminated two terrorists while thwarting an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district, as reported by officials on Tuesday.
Vigilant Army personnel detected suspicious movement along the LoC and immediately responded to the threat.
"Our forces challenged an infiltrating terrorist group, resulting in a prolonged exchange of gunfire. Two terrorists have been neutralized in this ongoing operation thus far," officials stated.
Additional information regarding the operation will be provided as it becomes available.
The Army and associated security forces maintain constant 24/7 surveillance along the LoC and interior regions to prevent infiltration attempts before winter snowfall closes the mountain passages in Jammu and Kashmir.
Intelligence reports indicate that terrorists are positioned at launch facilities in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), waiting for opportunities to cross into Indian territory before heavy snow renders mountain passes impassable.
Security officials note that while the exact count of terrorists preparing to infiltrate varies continuously, estimates suggest approximately 100 may be attempting to cross the border.
The Army, security forces, and Jammu and Kashmir Police continue conducting aggressive anti-terrorism operations throughout the union territory to dismantle terrorist networks by targeting operatives, their overground workers (OGWs), and sympathizers.
The Line of Control is under Army protection, while the Border Security Force (BSF) safeguards the International Border (IB).
Jammu and Kashmir's border includes 740 kilometers of LoC and 240 kilometers of International Border. The LoC runs through Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora in Kashmir Valley and portions of Jammu district, while the International Border extends across Jammu, Samba, and Kathua districts in the Jammu division.
Terrorist handlers operating from Pakistan are increasingly utilizing drones to deliver weapons, ammunition, drugs, and money to sustain terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. These payloads are collected by terrorist associates, OGWs, or sympathizers and subsequently transferred to active terrorists.
To counter this emerging threat, both the BSF and Army have deployed specialized anti-drone technology along the International Border and Line of Control.
