A 20-year-old woman was fatally stabbed allegedly by her former lover just meters from her residence in northeast Delhi's Nand Nagri area on Monday morning, according to police reports.

The perpetrator has been identified as Akash (23), who works as a sweeper and resides in Nand Nagri.

Police stated that he stabbed the victim multiple times following a dispute over his suspicions that she was communicating with someone else.

The incident took place at approximately 10:30 am. The woman, who sustained multiple stab wounds, was transported to GTB Hospital where medical staff pronounced her deceased, police confirmed.

Authorities have registered a case under applicable sections at Nand Nagri Police Station. Forensic teams examined the crime scene, and the victim's remains were sent for autopsy, they further noted.

Initial investigations revealed that the accused and the victim, who were neighbors, had been in a relationship for three to four years. Recently, she had begun distancing herself from him, according to police.

The young woman is survived by her father, a temporary sanitation employee with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, her mother, and a younger brother. She had completed education up to Class 11 and was currently at home.

In an interview with PTI, the victim's mother shared, "She was my only daughter. She rarely left home. I seldom even sent her to the market. Today, she simply went to purchase some samosas. I was showering when she asked if I wanted any, but I told her I was fasting and to get some for herself."

"Afterward, I heard the young man who killed her shouting, 'I killed her, I killed her' in our lane. I hurried out to search for her and discovered her lying near the school," she recounted.

According to the victim's father, the accused had been harassing his daughter for some time.

The young woman had informed her father about Akash's behavior, prompting him to complain to the youth's maternal grandfather and uncle. The family assured him they would counsel Akash, but the accused subsequently committed the crime.

An eyewitness remarked, "We are extremely concerned for our children. Similar incidents have occurred previously, but we were never fully aware of them. Today, it happened right before our eyes. My children are frightened, and so are we. Police arrived nearly an hour and a half later."

Efforts to recover the weapon used in the crime are ongoing, and further investigation continues, police added.
