Safe Landing After Mid-Air Windshield Crack on IndiGo Flight

Chennai:

An IndiGo flight traveling from Tuticorin to Chennai successfully landed this afternoon despite experiencing a windshield crack during the journey, which prompted air traffic authorities to implement precautionary protocols.

The ATR flight 6E1607, carrying 75 passengers, was en route to Chennai when the pilots identified the crack. According to sources at the airport, the flight crew immediately notified ground control, resulting in a local standby being declared at Chennai airport.

Officials from the airport emphasized that no emergency was declared as the situation remained under control throughout the incident. A senior officer at the Airports Authority of India informed NDTV, "There was no emergency declared and the flight made a smooth landing."

When questioned about what might have caused the windshield to crack, the officer stated, "Only an investigation would confirm."

This marks the second similar incident involving IndiGo within a four-day period.

Previously, another IndiGo ATR aircraft operating on the Madurai-Chennai route had also reported a windshield crack while airborne, yet managed to land safely in Chennai.

Both incidents concluded without any injuries, and all passengers were safely evacuated from the aircraft.
