Zubeen Garg's family has established a 10-day ultimatum for authorities to deliver justice.
Guwahati:
Three Non-Resident Indians from Singapore who attended the yacht party on September 19 with renowned singer Zubeen Garg arrived in Guwahati today. These individuals, who are originally from Assam, are key witnesses to the incident resulting in Garg's death and have joined the investigation conducted by Assam CID's Special Investigation Team.
The arriving witnesses include Jalongsat Narzary, Parikshit Sharma, and Siddhartha Bora. Following five hours of interrogation, their statements were officially recorded before a magistrate.
Previously, another NRI named Rupkamal Kalita appeared before the Assam CID last week, with his statement also documented before a magistrate.
In total, authorities summoned 11 NRIs who participated in the yacht party to Guwahati for investigation purposes. To date, four individuals have responded to this summons.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated yesterday that NRIs who have been summoned but have not yet appeared for questioning will face strict consequences with assistance from Singaporean authorities.
The family of Zubeen Garg has publicly issued a 10-day deadline for authorities to provide justice. His wife Garima and younger sister Dr. Palmie Borthakur shared this ultimatum on Facebook.
MP Gupta, head of the SIT, revealed that they requested permission from Singaporean authorities to visit the accident site on September 30.
"We anticipate a positive response soon. Once we receive official clearance, we will promptly examine the death site and gather essential details. Singaporean authorities are conducting their own investigation and have requested official documentation from Assam Police, which we have provided. We are waiting for Singapore to complete their internal investigation," Gupta explained.
When questioned about potentially requesting extended police custody for arrested individuals, Gupta clarified that all detainees will appear before the court for further proceedings.
"We have held them in custody for the maximum legal duration of 14 days. The law does not permit detention beyond this period. Our investigation is progressing efficiently and in accordance with legal protocols," he stated.
Gupta also dismissed rumors regarding delays in the investigation, affirming, "We will submit the final report within the designated timeframe. We are making every effort to bring this investigation to a logical conclusion."
