Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran.
N Chandrasekaran will continue serving as the Chairman of Tata Sons until 2032, according to information obtained by NDTV Profit. This decision represents a significant departure from the company's existing retirement policy, which stipulates that executives must retire upon reaching 65 years of age.
Chandrasekaran, who assumed the role of Tata Sons Chairman in 2017, is currently fulfilling a five-year term that was originally scheduled to conclude in 2027, coinciding with his 65th birthday.
The trustees have now approved a third five-year executive term for Chandrasekaran as Tata Sons Chairman. By the conclusion of this extended tenure in 2032, he will be 70 years old.
Tata Trusts has expressed support for maintaining leadership continuity in key strategic areas of the organization.
Sources have informed NDTV Profit that Chandrasekaran's tenure extension was not included as an agenda item during Friday's Tata Trusts meeting.
In related developments, tensions have emerged within Tata Trusts, the nonprofit and philanthropic organization that collectively holds approximately 66 percent equity ownership in Tata Sons, the group's principal holding company, thus controlling its operations.
The internal conflict centers around board appointments and governance issues within the organization.
