Congress MP Abhishek Singhvi has shared a humorous joke regarding Trump's Nobel Prize snub that has gained attention online.
Senior Congress leader and renowned lawyer Abhishek Singhvi has crafted a clever wordplay concerning Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado receiving the Nobel Peace Prize. The Rajya Sabha MP used this opportunity to take a jab at US President Donald Trump, whose supporters had been asserting he was a leading candidate for this year's Nobel Peace Prize.
"In a lighter vein... with appropriate 'poor joke PJ' forewarning... but concededly witty...," Singhvi prefaced before delivering his joke.
He wrote: "Trump: Agar mujhe Nobel Peace Prize nahi diya, toh main duniya mein tehelka macha doonga... Nobel Committee: Machado." This humorous remark plays on the Hindi phrase "Macha doonga" and connects it to the Venezuelan leader's surname, creating a pun that many find amusing despite Singhvi calling it a "poor joke."
The 58-year-old Venezuelan opposition leader was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for "her tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy," according to Jorgen Watne Frydnes, chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee in Oslo.
President Trump has never hidden his desire to win the Nobel Peace Prize, frequently emphasizing that he deserved the honor for resolving multiple international conflicts—a claim that many dispute.
Following the Nobel Peace Prize announcement, the White House expressed strong disapproval of the Norwegian Nobel Committee's decision. "President Trump will continue making peace deals, ending wars, and saving lives," White House Director of Communications Steven Cheung stated on X. "The Nobel Committee proved they place politics over peace."
Machado dedicated her Nobel Peace Prize to the Venezuelan people and to US President Trump for his "decisive support" of her country's pro-democracy movement. "I dedicate this prize to the suffering people of Venezuela and to President Trump for his decisive support of our cause!" she posted on X.
"We are on the threshold of victory and today, more than ever, we count on President Trump, the people of the United States, the peoples of Latin America, and the democratic nations of the world as our principal allies to achieve Freedom and democracy," she further stated.
