Bihar Man Burns Second Wife to Death for Objecting to His Plans to Marry Girlfriend

A 25-year-old woman lost her life in a horrific incident in Bihar.

In a shocking case from Bihar, a man set his second wife on fire after she opposed his plans to marry his girlfriend. Officials reported on Saturday that the perpetrator, Vikas Kumar, doused his wife with petrol, released LPG from a cylinder, and ignited her.

Vikas Kumar, residing in a village in Nalanda district, had married Sunita Devi five years ago. According to Sunita's father, they discovered after the wedding that Kumar had previously been married and had not legally divorced his first wife.

Despite this revelation, Kumar's family convinced Sunita to continue living with them. Tragically, she gave birth to two children who both died shortly after birth. Subsequently, Kumar began expressing his desire to marry his girlfriend, which sparked frequent disagreements with Sunita. Eventually, these conflicts led Sunita to leave and stay with her parents.

Prior to the Durga Puja festival, which commenced last month, Kumar visited Sunita's residence and persuaded her to return home with him.

Sunita's brother recounted receiving a distressing call from her around 1 am on Saturday. During the call, she informed them that Kumar had drenched her in petrol and confined her to the courtyard. He had then opened the gas stove valves and thrown a lit matchstick. In her final moments, Sunita told her family she would not survive. Officials noted that her phone went silent after this communication.

When Sunita's family arrived at the village, they discovered Kumar and his relatives preparing to cremate her body. Upon seeing Sunita's family approaching, they fled the scene.

"A team reached the spot and started an investigation. A forensic team has collected samples. The body has been handed over to the woman's family after a postmortem and her in-laws are on the run," stated Station House Officer Anil Kumar Pandey.
