Guwahati:
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Assam Police investigating Zubeen Garg's death has now received the viscera report from New Delhi's Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), according to a senior police official on Saturday.
The renowned Assamese singer tragically drowned during a yacht party while swimming in Singapore on September 19. The toxicology report is expected to provide crucial insights into whether poisoning played a role in his death.
The forensic report has been forwarded to the panel of doctors at Guwahati Medical College who performed the postmortem examination on the singer. According to Additional Director General of Police (CID) and SIT chief Munna Prashad Gupta, the final report will soon be submitted to the court and shared with Garg's family.
Gupta confirmed that seven individuals have been arrested in connection with the case and remain in police custody. Authorities have also issued notices to several people in Singapore. One person has already appeared before the SIT to provide a statement, while others are expected to cooperate with the investigation shortly.
The ADGP further disclosed that a Mutual Legal Assistance Request (MLAR) has been sent to Singapore through proper channels in the Indian government. This formal request for assistance in the criminal investigation is currently under review by Singaporean authorities. Such requests follow international legal protocols for cross-border investigations.
Gupta emphasized that evidence collection in Singapore will be handled by local authorities in accordance with international legal standards. He assured that all aspects of the case are being thoroughly investigated, and the SIT aims to submit the chargesheet within the legally mandated timeframe.
