On Saturday, the pilot of an IndiGo aircraft carrying 76 passengers from Madurai to Chennai detected a crack in the windshield shortly before landing. IndiGo, India's largest domestic airline, faced this technical issue mid-flight as the crew approached Chennai airport.
Upon discovering the crack in the front glass, the pilot immediately notified the Air Traffic Controller at Chennai airport. Airport authorities swiftly implemented emergency protocols in response to this information.
The aircraft successfully completed a safe landing at Chennai airport following these precautionary measures. Officials directed the plane to a designated area (Bay No 95) for parking, where all passengers were safely evacuated without any reported injuries.
Currently, technical teams are working to replace the damaged windshield. The investigation into what caused the crack is still underway according to airport authorities.
Due to this technical issue, the airline has cancelled the aircraft's scheduled return journey to Madurai, affecting travel plans for passengers.
When contacted by PTI regarding the incident, IndiGo's official statement notably omitted specific mention of the windshield crack, instead referring to it as a "maintenance requirement."
"A maintenance requirement was noticed on IndiGo flight 6E 7253, operating from Madurai to Chennai on October 10, 2025, before landing at its destination," an IndiGo spokesperson explained.
"Following standard operating procedures, the aircraft landed safely in Chennai and will resume operations only after necessary checks and clearances," the airline's statement concluded.
