Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's virtual inauguration of the 51.38-km Bairabi-Sairang railway project and three new trains in Mizoram, a concerning social media post has emerged showing the deplorable state of the newly opened station. Content creator Udesh Das posted a viral Instagram reel titled 'Indians Have Zero Civic Sense', documenting how Sairang railway station had been covered with rubbish and food remnants by visitors shortly after its opening.
"A heartbreaking view at Sairang Railway Station, Mizoram, inaugurated just yesterday! We should be proud enough to maintain our stations' cleanliness. I urge all Indians: Please respect and keep our public facilities clean," read the caption accompanying the video.
In the footage, Das is heard expressing his frustration over the lack of public responsibility, as the station's inaugural carpets were still visible amidst the mess.
"Take a look at this. This is how the railway station looks merely 24 hours after its inauguration. People have scattered trash everywhere. Who consumes food and abandons their plates like this? I'm disappointed with my fellow citizens," Das commented while filming the station's condition.
"This explains why Indians face criticism abroad. The inauguration just happened yesterday. Despite dustbins being placed throughout for such events, people litter indiscriminately," he continued.
"This isn't just about this particular station. It reflects our civic awareness. It's a national embarrassment."

'I feel ashamed'As the video spread across social media, accumulating over 170,000 views and numerous comments, users expressed their outrage and insisted that citizens should accept responsibility rather than criticizing authorities.
"This country belongs to us, and maintaining its cleanliness is our duty. Every citizen should treat the nation as their home. No one litters in their own house," one user commented, while another added: "Perhaps the British should govern us for another century to instill civic sense in us. As an Indian, I truly feel embarrassed."
Another user remarked: "Typical Indian behavior. They'll complain if penalties are imposed. This is our nation, and keeping it clean is everyone's responsibility."
Indian Railways responseRailway authorities addressed the video by stating that the matter had been escalated and tagged the official account of the Divisional Railway Manager of Lumding Division.
"For necessary action escalated to the concerned official @Drm_lmg_nfr," their statement read.
