Air India Vienna-New Delhi Flight Diverted to Dubai: Technical Issue Forces Emergency Landing

An Air India flight from Vienna to New Delhi was safely diverted to Dubai following a suspected technical issue. All passengers remained safe during the incident, receiving updates and refreshments during the delay. This follows another recent Air India incident where a Boeing 787 Dreamliner's emergency system activated during approach to Birmingham.

Air India Vienna-New Delhi Flight Diverted To Dubai Over Technical Issue

An Air India flight traveling from Vienna, Austria to New Delhi was diverted to Dubai after experiencing a suspected technical issue, according to an airline spokesperson.

The aircraft landed safely in Dubai where it underwent necessary technical inspections before continuing its journey. All passengers remained safe during the incident.

The airline's spokesperson confirmed: "AI154 operating from Vienna to New Delhi on October 9 was diverted to Dubai due to a suspected technical issue. The aircraft landed safely at Dubai and underwent necessary checks."

The spokesperson further added, "All passengers were kept informed of the delay, provided refreshments, and the flight departed at 08:45 hrs IST. We regret the inconvenience caused due to the unforeseen delay. At Air India, the safety of passengers and crew remains top priority."

This incident follows another recent technical issue with an Air India flight. On October 4, flight AI117, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner operating from Amritsar to Birmingham, experienced deployment of its Ram Air Turbine (RAT) during final approach.

Despite the RAT deployment, all electrical and hydraulic systems functioned normally, and the aircraft landed safely in Birmingham with no injuries reported to passengers or crew members.

Following that incident, the aircraft was grounded for comprehensive inspections. As a result, the return flight AI114 from Birmingham to Delhi was cancelled, with Air India making alternative arrangements for affected passengers.

The airline had stated regarding the October 4 incident: "The operating crew of flight AI117 from Amritsar to Birmingham on 04 October 2025 detected deployment of the Ram Air Turbine (RAT) of the aircraft during its final approach. All electrical and hydraulic parameters were found normal, and the aircraft performed a safe landing at Birmingham."

A Ram Air Turbine is an emergency device that resembles a small windmill. It deploys automatically when an aircraft loses its main electrical or hydraulic power, generating emergency power to maintain critical flight systems and controls.
