Mumbai:
A high-speed Porsche vehicle collided with a road divider on Thursday early morning in Mumbai, resulting in injuries to both occupants while allegedly racing against a BMW on the highway.
The accident occurred around 2 am on the Western Express Highway near Jogeshwari area, according to police reports.
Officials from Jogeshwari police stated that the Porsche, carrying two individuals, was reportedly competing with a BMW when the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to crash into a divider beneath Mogra Metro station.
Police identified the driver as 22-year-old Nuwo Sonse, who sustained injuries alongside his friend in the collision.
Sonse, who resides in Mira-Bhayander in neighboring Thane district, was traveling with his friend from Lokhandwala area to Bandra to meet other acquaintances when the accident happened.
Despite the deployment of safety airbags following impact, Sonse suffered leg injuries while his companion received minor injuries, the official confirmed.
Bystanders and police personnel quickly responded to the scene, transporting the injured driver to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine whether the crash resulted from high-speed racing or other factors.
Based on preliminary information, police have registered a case against the Porsche driver under relevant sections of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita for rash and negligent driving, along with applicable provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
