Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj Party released its first list with 51 names today
Patna:
A mathematician who has written textbooks for generations, former bureaucrats, retired police officers, and doctors are among the 51 candidates announced this afternoon by Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj Party. This is the first set of candidates that Jan Suraaj has unveiled for the upcoming two-phase election in Bihar next month.
In this initial list, 16 percent of the candidates represent the Muslim community while 17 percent come from extremely backward communities. Kishor, who transitioned from poll strategist to politician, has consistently spoken out against political corruption, making candidates' clean reputation a primary selection criterion. He has recruited several former bureaucrats and police officers to contest the elections.
Among the notable candidates is a renowned mathematician. KC Sinha, Jan Suraaj's nominee for Kumhrar, previously served as Vice Chancellor of Patna University. His authored textbooks have been standard educational materials in Bihar and numerous other states for decades.
YB Giri is the party's candidate from Manjhi. As a Senior Advocate in Patna High Court, Giri has participated in many high-profile legal cases. His professional experience includes serving as Additional Advocate General of Bihar and Additional Solicitor General of India for central government cases in the Patna High Court.
Jan Suraaj's candidate for the Muzaffarpur seat, Dr. Amit Kumar Das, graduated from Patna Medical College and Hospital and has dedicated his career to healthcare awareness and bringing essential medical services to rural areas. Together with his physician wife, he operates a hospital in Muzaffarpur.
Kishor's name does not appear in this first list of candidates, maintaining uncertainty about his electoral participation. Kishor has previously expressed interest in contesting from either Raghopur, an RJD stronghold and Tejashwi Yadav's constituency, or Kargahar, his home constituency. The nomination of Ritesh Ranjan (Pandey) for Kargahar in Jan Suraaj's first list suggests that Kishor may ultimately choose to run from Raghopur.
