Deadly Kanpur Blast: Eight Injured After Illegal Firecrackers Explode in Crowded Market

A massive explosion occurred at a shop in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, injuring eight people on Wednesday evening. CCTV footage from Mishri bazaar in the Moolganj area shows the incident, with police suspecting illegally stored firecrackers as the cause.

The CCTV recording, captured from inside a cloth shop, shows a man sitting near the entrance while vehicles pass by on the road outside. A pile of cartons is visible, and suddenly a blast erupts from beneath the boxes.
The explosion was powerful enough to destroy two parked scooters and cause extensive damage to nearby establishments.
A woman suffered severe injuries in the incident, with eyewitnesses reporting that her clothes were burnt and her body had turned black. Local shopkeepers covered her with a sheet before rushing her to a hospital.
Among the eight injured individuals, two have been discharged, four are receiving treatment at a local hospital, and two with severe injuries have been transferred to the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Lucknow.
According to the video timestamp, the incident occurred at approximately 6:50 in the evening.
Following the explosion, police conducted an overnight search operation, seizing large quantities of illegally stored firecrackers from more than a dozen shops in the area. Approximately 20 people have been detained in connection with the incident.
The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrived at the scene late at night to conduct a thorough search operation.
