Leader Charged For Distributing Voter IDs Is Congress' Pick For Telangana Bypoll

The ruling Congress party in Telangana has named V Naveen Yadav as their candidate for the upcoming Jubilee Hills assembly constituency bypoll in Hyderabad, scheduled for November 11.

Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal made the official announcement through a statement confirming Yadav's nomination for the seat.

Yadav, aged 41, has a varied political background, having previously contested the 2014 Telangana assembly elections as a candidate for Asaduddin Owaisi's AIMIM party. He later ran as an Independent candidate in the 2018 elections before joining the Congress party in 2023.

Notably, Yadav was recently involved in a controversy when police filed a case against him for allegedly distributing printed e-EPICs (Electronic Electoral Photo Identity Cards) without the required holograms at a local event in Hyderabad.

This bypoll was necessitated following the unfortunate demise of BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath, who suffered a fatal heart attack in June this year.
