Assam Police DSP Suspended After Arrest in Singer Zubeen Garg's Death Investigation

Sandipan Garg, cousin of popular singer Zubeen Garg and Assam Police DSP, has been suspended following his arrest in connection with the singer's mysterious death in Singapore. The officer, who was present on the yacht during the incident, faces multiple serious charges and has been placed in seven-day police custody.

Sandipan Garg, who served as the co-district SP of Boko-Chaygaon, has been suspended from his duties according to an official order.

Guwahati authorities confirmed that Zubeen Garg's cousin and Assam Police DSP Sandipan Garg has been suspended with immediate effect following his arrest on Wednesday in connection with the singer's death investigation.

The Assam Police Service officer had traveled with the singer to Singapore and was allegedly present on the yacht during Zubeen's final moments. The renowned singer tragically died while swimming in Singapore waters on September 19.

Prior to his suspension, Sandipan Garg held the position of co-district SP of Boko-Chaygaon in Kamrup district.

Following his arrest, the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Kamrup Metropolitan district placed him in seven-day police custody.

According to the suspension order, should Sandipan Garg be released from judicial custody, his headquarters "will be Assam Police Headquarters, Guwahati, subject to review, if deemed necessary."

Authorities have arrested him under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including charges of murder, culpable homicide not amounting to murder, criminal conspiracy, and causing death by negligence.
