A blast erupted in a crowded marketplace in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday evening, leaving six individuals injured, including one woman, according to police reports.

The explosion occurred around 7pm in the Mishri bazaar within Moolganj area, a location well-known for its firecracker market.

Authorities have taken five people into custody for interrogation regarding the incident.

No fatalities have been reported in the immediate aftermath of the blast.

The explosion originated from two parked scooters. The blast was powerful enough to completely destroy both vehicles and cause significant damage to surrounding shops.

Police investigators suspect that illegally stored firecrackers in the scooters may have triggered the explosion.

Joint Police Commissioner Ashutosh Kumar reported that local residents and shop owners heard a loud explosion, after which smoke and debris engulfed the area.

"The explosion originated from two parked scooters. Six people, including a woman, were injured. The scooters have been traced and their owners have been called. The investigation is ongoing," stated Joint Police Commissioner Ashutosh Kumar.

Kumar added that forensic experts and bomb disposal units were promptly summoned to the scene to determine the explosion's cause.

"The area has been cordoned off and officials have been informed. Some nearby shops were affected; toys and other goods were scattered, and the blast shattered glass windows and damaged false ceilings," Kumar explained.

The injured victims have been transported to Ursula, a government hospital in Kanpur, for medical treatment.

Law enforcement teams are currently examining the debris and damaged scooters to ascertain whether explosive materials were involved.

"Our teams are investigating. We are examining the remains to see if there was any explosive substance. Only after the forensic report will we be able to confirm the cause," Kumar stated.
