A physician employed at a government facility sustained severe injuries after being assaulted with a machete by an individual at the taluk hospital located in Thamarassery within this district on Wednesday, as confirmed by law enforcement authorities.

Police officials have taken into custody the perpetrator, who has been identified as the father of a young female patient who recently succumbed to amoebic meningitis, following the incident that occurred in the afternoon hours.

The victim, Dr. Vipin, received trauma to the head during the attack and was immediately transported to a private medical institution for urgent care, according to police statements.
