Haryana IPS Officer Who Died By Suicide Accused Seniors In 8-Page Note

Senior Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar died by suicide at his Chandigarh residence in Sector 11, where he shot himself with his service revolver. In an eight-page suicide note, he accused multiple senior officers of subjecting him to "mental harassment" and "psychological torture."

The body was discovered by Kumar's daughter in the basement of their home. According to officials, the officer was deeply troubled over being implicated in a bribery case that was filed based on a liquor contractor's complaint without obtaining the state government's mandatory permission.

On Monday, Rohtak Police registered an FIR following allegations from a liquor contractor that Kumar's aide, Sushil Kumar, had demanded a bribe of Rs 2.5 lakh in the officer's name. While Sushil was arrested, Y Puran Kumar's name was also included in the FIR, though the document has not been made available online.

Kumar, a 2001-batch IPS officer, had recently been transferred to the Police Training College in Sunaria, Rohtak, on September 29. Prior to this transfer, he had served as Inspector General of Rohtak Range. Born on May 19, 1973, the engineering graduate was not due to retire until May 31, 2033.

In his detailed suicide note, Kumar accused ten senior officers, both current and retired, of conspiring to damage his professional career. While Chandigarh Police has not officially released the names mentioned in the note, sources indicate the case may be connected to a corruption investigation previously initiated by Kumar in Rohtak.

Before his death, Kumar had written to Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini questioning the legality of certain IPS officer promotions. He alleged these promotions violated Union Home Ministry guidelines and were approved solely based on the Finance Department's consent.
