Google AI Mode Rolls Out In 7 New Indian Languages

AI Mode, previously available exclusively in English and Hindi, now enables users to explore complex topics in greater depth.

New Delhi:

Google announced on Wednesday a significant expansion of its AI-powered Search experience across India, extending AI Mode to seven additional Indian languages: Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.

This expansion will allow millions more users throughout the country to pose complex questions and receive detailed responses in their language of choice.

Previously limited to English and Hindi, AI Mode empowers users to explore sophisticated topics and formulate longer, more conversational queries.

According to Google, the response to AI Mode since its introduction in India has been "incredible," with users leveraging it for various purposes including education, writing, product comparisons, and travel planning.

The company explained that this language expansion is powered by their custom Gemini model for Search, specifically designed to comprehend the subtleties of local languages rather than simply translating text. The implementation across these new languages will commence over the next week.

In conjunction with this expansion, Google introduced 'Search Live,' a new AI Mode feature enabling users to interact with Search using voice and camera capabilities.

This functionality allows people to communicate with Google and receive real-time assistance based on what they're currently viewing.

India will become the first country outside the United States to access Search Live, initially available in English and Hindi.

For instance, users can direct their camera at ingredients and ask, "What's the best way to combine these to make an iced matcha?" to receive immediate guidance.

Google indicated that this feature is particularly valuable for DIY projects, troubleshooting, schoolwork, and travel planning.

Search Live is launching today and will reach additional users in the coming weeks. To experience it, users can open the Google app and tap the 'Live' icon beneath the search bar or access Google Lens and select 'Live' at the bottom of the screen.

Google stated that these updates demonstrate its profound commitment to making Search more intuitive, conversational, and accessible for all Indian users, enabling them to "truly ask anything."
