New Delhi:
On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi commemorated the death anniversary of former Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan, acknowledging his significant contributions to public service and nation-building.
Born on July 5, 1946, in Bihar's Khagaria, Ram Vilas Paswan served as the president of the Lok Janshakti Party and had an extensive parliamentary career, being elected to the Lok Sabha nine times and the Rajya Sabha twice. During Prime Minister Modi's first two terms, Paswan held the position of Cabinet Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.
In his tribute posted on X, Prime Minister Modi described Paswan as "a symbol of social justice and dedicated to public service." He emphasized that Paswan "always worked for the welfare of the deprived and exploited communities of society" and noted that "his contribution to nation-building will always be remembered."
Chirag Paswan, Union Minister and son of Ram Vilas Paswan, expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister, saying, "Respected Prime Minister Ji, heartfelt thanks to you for paying tribute to Papa with your beautiful words."
Earlier that day, Chirag had also shared his own tribute on X, quoting his father's wisdom: "Papa, you always used to say: Jurm karo mat, jurm saho mat; jeena hai to marna seekho, kadam kadam par ladna seekho (loosely translated as 'Do not commit a crime, do not endure a crime. If you want to live, learn to die, Learn to fight at every step.')"
In another emotional post, Chirag affirmed his commitment to his father's legacy: "Papa, on your death anniversary, I bow to you. I assure you that I am fully committed to realizing the path you showed and your vision 'Bihar First, Bihari First'."
He continued, "The dream you had of the overall and all-round development of Bihar, it is time to bring it to fruition. Fulfilling the responsibility you entrusted to my shoulders is the purpose and duty of my life."
Referring to the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections as a "grand festival of democracy," Chirag stated that these elections represent "an opportunity to fulfill your resolve -- an opportunity to give Bihar a new direction, to realize the dreams of every Bihari."
Chirag also expressed his determination to advance the work of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ramvilas), adding that "it is the dream of every worker and office-bearer of the party that your dreams can be fulfilled in the upcoming elections. Papa, your inspiration - blessings and ideals will always remain my guiding light."
