Prashant Kishor has definitively dismissed any possibility of forming an alliance between his Jan Suraaj Party and Chirag Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) for the forthcoming Bihar election.
Speaking from Patna, the renowned poll strategist addressed growing speculation about a potential partnership, stating that Jan Suraaj will contest the election independently. "There is a fight going on to loot Bihar. This is not a fight for seats," Kishor emphasized. "Every party wants to get more seats so they can loot Bihar more in the future. We do not have any alliance. Our alliance is with the people."
The rumors of a possible coalition emerged amid intense seat-sharing negotiations between Paswan and National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partners. Paswan, who currently serves as Union Minister for Food Processing Industries, is reportedly demanding 40 seats out of Bihar's 243-member Assembly, following his party's impressive performance in last year's Lok Sabha election where they secured all five contested seats.
However, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) appears willing to offer only 25 seats - a proposal Paswan has found unacceptable. The young leader subtly hinted at potential consequences, telling NDTV, "I am like salt on vegetables... I can affect 20,000 to 25,000 votes in every constituency," before adding, "I always have the option of walking out."
Despite these statements, BJP sources have minimized the significance of Paswan's apparent ultimatum. Party insiders suggest he remains a loyal supporter of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and that his current positioning is primarily aimed at appeasing hardliners within his own party.
The upcoming two-phase Bihar election has intensified political maneuvering across the state, with various parties finalizing their electoral strategies and alliances.
