TMC Says Its Tripura Headquarters Attacked, Delegation From Kolkata To Visit Tomorrow

Agartala:

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has alleged that its Tripura headquarters in Agartala was vandalized by members of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) youth wing on Tuesday.

This incident occurred just one day after BJP MP Khagen Murmu and MLA Sankar Ghosh were reportedly attacked in a flood-affected region in northern West Bengal.

According to State TMC president Santanu Saha, a substantial group of BJP Yuva Morcha activists attacked the party office located in the Motor Stand area.

"They damaged furniture and the party office signboard. The attackers also shouted slogans against the Trinamool Congress," Saha stated.

Saha mentioned that the TMC had alerted the local police station about a possible attack, but no preventive measures were taken.

"A delegation from Kolkata is expected to arrive tomorrow to evaluate the situation. We plan to file an FIR regarding this incident after meeting with the delegation," he added.

The state BJP's chief spokesperson Subrata Chakraborty was unavailable for comment on the matter.

West Tripura's SP Namit Pathak and Additional SP (Urban) Drubha Nath could not be reached for their statements regarding the incident.

The TMC delegation will include MPs Pratima Mondal, Sushmita Dev, and Saayoni Ghosh, along with West Bengal minister Birbaha Hansda, and party leaders Kunal Ghosh and Sudip Raha.

TMC leaders in Kolkata indicated that the delegation's visit aims to send a "strong political message" against what they describe as BJP's "culture of violence and intimidation" in the Northeast region.

Meanwhile, the BJP organized a protest in Agartala regarding the attack on Murmu, who is currently in the ICU with a fractured bone below his eye, and Ghosh in north Bengal.

BJP's Sadar district president Ashim Bhattacharjee stated that Tripura's citizens had provided moral support to TMC chief Mamata Banerjee to remove the CPI(M), but she failed to meet people's expectations as West Bengal's Chief Minister.

"Our MP and MLA were attacked during Lakkhi Puja while distributing relief materials to flood-affected people in north Bengal," he said.

Bhattacharjee claimed Banerjee was "afraid of Trinamool's impending defeat" in next year's West Bengal assembly elections.

"Sensing BJP's victory, TMC goons carried out the attack. We pledge to 'immerse' the TMC government in West Bengal in 2026, similar to how we defeated the CPI(M) in Tripura in 2018," he asserted.
