Intoxicated Man Attacks Multiple Passengers with Machete on Government Bus in Odisha's Puri District

Several passengers were assaulted with a sharp weapon inside a government-run bus in Odisha's Puri district. The Ama bus, which is part of Odisha's public transport service, was traveling from Haraspada in the Kanasa block of Puri district to Satyabari Sukal when an intoxicated man forcibly entered and began attacking passengers.

CCTV footage captured the assailant threatening passengers with a machete. The video shows him initially conversing with a passenger before suddenly striking him in the head, causing panic among other travelers. Many passengers were seen frantically attempting to distance themselves from the attacker.

The man proceeded to assault additional people on the bus. In response, other passengers eventually overwhelmed the attacker, resulting in injuries to him as well.

Additional footage revealed the man standing on a seat, apparently directing people to exit the bus. In another clip, he was observed pacing around the vehicle while holding the machete in his right hand and checking his phone.

Puri Superintendent of Police Prateek Singh stated that authorities transported all injured individuals, including the perpetrator, to the Kanas Community Health Centre. Two victims were later transferred to the Puri District Headquarters Hospital, where the accused is currently receiving medical treatment.

Police officials confirmed that a case will be filed against the assailant and appropriate legal action will follow. In response to the incident, Puri police have enhanced patrol activities along the bus route to prevent similar occurrences.
